A Quiet Life in the Country: A Lady Hardcastle Mystery by T.E. Kinsey

Lady Emily Hardcastle is an eccentric widow with a secret past. Florence Armstrong, her maid and confidante, is an expert in martial arts. The year is 1908 and they've just moved from London to the country, hoping for a quiet life. But it is not long before Lady Hardcastle is forced out of her self-imposed retirement. There's a dead body in the woods, and the police are on the wrong scent. Lady Hardcastle makes some enquiries of her own, and it seems she knows a surprising amount about crime investigation. As Lady Hardcastle and Flo delve deeper into rural rivalries and resentment, they uncover a web of intrigue that extends far beyond the village. With almost no one free from suspicion, they can be certain of only one fact: there is no such thing as a quiet life in the country.

Joy Goddess: A'Lelia Walker and the Harlem Renaissance by A'Lelia Bundles

A'Lelia Walker, daughter of entrepreneur Madam C.J. Walker, was a prominent patron of the arts and a central figure of the Harlem Renaissance. Inheriting her mother's hair care empire, she became America's first high-profile Black heiress. Dubbed the "joy goddess of Harlem's 1920s," Walker hosted legendary parties and salons at her New York homes, entertaining luminaries like Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston. This biography, written by her great-granddaughter, uses personal correspondence and research to paint a nuanced portrait of a woman who was a fashion trendsetter and international traveler while also struggling to define herself outside her mother's shadow.

Support for this program is provided through Food and Nutrition Service grant funds administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS).

The kiosks are self-service and will be most useful to clients who are renewing their benefits, checking their status, or filing routine changes.
