Greene County Library Launches Permanent StoryWalk®

The Greene County Library Launched "Catching Tales on the Firefly Trail," a new StoryWalk® installation on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Located on the recently completed Greene County section of the 39-mile rail-trail connecting Athens to Union Point, it blends literacy, physical activity, and community engagement.

The permanent StoryWalk® features pages of a children's book displayed on panels along the route, each with a QR code linked to fun, literacy-boosting activities like songs or quizzes. Greene County Library Manager Tara Coile noted, "The Firefly Trail is an incredible community asset, and our new StoryWalk® creates a seamless connection between physical activity and learning."

Funded by a Georgia Public Library Service Community Partnership grant, the project aims to increase library awareness in rural communities, promote the Firefly Trail, and support local economic development. Local contributors included the City Council of Union Point, the Firefly Trail Board, Greene County Ferst Readers, and other businesses and donors.
