- Service Records – include CMSR’s, rosters, muser rolls, payrolls, etc.
- Pension Records
- Bounty Land Records
- Bureal of Land Management’s General Land Office Records
- The 1840 census asked the age of Revolutionary War veterans
- Indexes to headstone applications and grave registrations
CMSR’s (Compiled Military Service Records) are available on Fold3
- Many of these records were destroyed in 1814
- All of the surviving records have been indexed, microfilmed, and digitized

- Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is one of the best sources to research ancestors who fought in the revolution
- The website contains three ways to search: Ancestor database, member search, and descendents database
- The Ancestor Search Database contains the name of all known patriots established by DAR members
- Family Search Wiki contains a list of Revolutionary War resources
- Forgotten Patriots: African American and American Indian Patriots in the Revolutionary War
- Sons of the American Revolution (SAR)
- SAR does not have a patriot index, however, Ancestry has digitized and indexed Sons of the American Revolution Membership Applications, 1889-1970
